Membership in Rotary

MEMBERS OF A ROTARY CLUB are part of a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community and international service needs and to promote peace and understanding throughout the world. Our members are our most important asset. They are the force that allows Rotary to carry out its many humanitarian efforts and achieve its mission.

NEW MEMBERS FOR OUR RIVER OAKS ROTARY CLUB are persistently sought out among the top caliber men and women in the worthy professions and gainful endeavors within Houston. We have an obligation to Rotary to see that the various classifications of businesses which are in our area, have an opportunity to be represented in our club. We should share Rotary. Seek individuals not for our club to be larger, but that the ideals we respect be furthered in service by civic minded, business minded, service minded individuals. A "one-person, one classification" fellowship will sharpen their abilities toward the practical applications of the Four Way Test, the needs of the community--and such people are Rotarians.

A ROTARY CLASSIFICATION BELONGS TO THE CLUB and is assigned to a member with his obligation to fairly represent their business or profession. The use of the classification and a reasonable amount of instruction in Rotary ideals, principles and purposes of fellowship is the duty of the club. Only the interest and effort of the individual creates a Rotarian out of a member.

MEMBERS MUST EITHER RESIDE OR OFFICE within Houston. Also, it is the policy of this club to accept for membership only those individuals who expect to REGULARLY ATTEND the meetings of OUR OWN ROTARY CLUB OF RIVER OAKS. A part of the obligation for a Rotarian is to have time to attend meetings regularly, participate in the activities--as well as to pay dues promptly.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: ALL PROPOSALS TO NEW MEMBERS should be first turned over to our Club Secretary so they can be recorded and assured that they are routed through proper procedures for consideration by the Board of Directors. It becomes quite embarrassing both to the Board and the others involved when a proposal gets bogged down. By all proposals being turned in, a progress record can be kept and unwarranted delays avoided.
